The Library & Information Services: "Lively" Learning and Communication

Under the financial support by the Macao Foundation, highly attention by leaders in the City University of Macau and cooperation among the CityU departments and the librarians from the CityU library, the Library & Information Services will open on 27^th August. Learning and interactive communication are the main characteristics of the Library & Information Services.

The Library & Information Services located in the Royal Centre campus in the City University of Macau. Its functions included: literatures collection, reading and learning, sharing information, interactive communication and propaganda exhibitions. The learning commons is combined with cooperation, interaction, innovation and knowledge sharing, leading the readers to get familiar with new knowledges, new techniques, new environment, and to achieve the lifelong learning of the students.

In the resources allocation aspect, the literatures, electronic resources and academic journals in the Library & Information Services focus on the curriculums in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Business, School of Law and Open Institute. It planning to collect 10000 books and 50 newspapers, in addition, the electronic books and databases share with the main library.

In the spatial arrangement aspect, to create a cultural area that included reading learning, information sharing and interactive communication, through different themes of literatures, book shelfs and furniture. Meanwhile, the area is emphasizing the “people” oriented, integrating with culture, art and creative elements, with the addition of the literatures, book shelfs, design of the furniture and the artistic decoration, to create a thematic, meaningful, and elegant cultural area.

The opening hours of the Library & Information Services are highly corresponding with the semester times in the Royal Centre and will be adjusted base on the actual demands. Student's card, teacher's card, library borrowing card and external user's card holders are allowed to access and enjoy the same, equal and standard library services with the main library.

In the facilities and equipment aspect, the Library & Information Services increased its efficiency through automatically manage system, self-check machine system and information service system etc.

Under the integration and profession of the management system of the CityU library and its branch, the Library & Information Services is achieving the cultural goals of "wisely study, seeking information, innovative knowledge and communicative sharing", to provide circulation, electronic resources, reference, interlibrary loan, documents delivery, subject, library instruction and training of the electronic databases services etc.
